The Rainbow Mountains of China are officially named the Zhangye Danxia Landform Geological Park and are located in the Gansu province in northwest China. These colourful, striped mountains are a 24-million-year-old geological formation, created by the deposition of sandstone and mud, uplifted by tectonic plates, and then sculpted by wind and rain. The vibrant colours result from various minerals like iron oxide, giving the landscape its famous red, orange, yellow, and green hues.
